Mass Demo to oppose the development of Farnborough Airport. Three SSSIs will be destroyed, 80 acres of trees felled, widespread environmental damage. Meet near Forester's Pub, Aldershot Road, Church Crookham. 10am, Saturday 28 October 2000.
Farnborough Airport is being developed by TAG Aviation against the express wishes of the local community. It will be the Business Airport for Europe, for exclusive use by business aviation, a key component of globalisation.
At the western end of the runway the top of a hill is to be lopped. The area is a SSSI, home to a nationally important population of adders. There are many other rare and endangered species, including Red Data Book species in the area. 80 acres of woodland are to be cleared. Two other SSSIs will be damaged by the work. The area forms part of the EU designated Thames Basin Heath SPA.
The demo offers the ideal opportunity to forge links with the local community, to establish a protest camp.
